Former European Commissioner for Energy

Andris Piebalgs is Senior Fellow at the Florence School of Regulation, and Chairman of the Board of Appeal at the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators. He is an experienced Latvian politician and diplomat, who has occupied key positions both at the national and European levels. He has been Latvia’s minister of Finance and of Education. He has served also as Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Parliament, and as the Latvian Ambassador to the EU. He served as a European Commissioner for Energy from 2004 to 2010, and as a European Commissioner for Development from 2010 to 2014.
