The panel will examine the ways that industry and transport can strongly impact current decarbonisation trends, with a particular focus on the implementation of the Integrated SET Plan and the actions it pursues in this field. SET Plan aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the EU industry, the uptake of innovative solutions by market intensive industries, as well as market take-up of renewable fuels needed for sustainable transport solutions and bioenergy cost reduction. The role of carbon capture, storage and use in Industry decarbonisation will also be addressed, as that of hydrogen as well.

Panel VI. (parallel) Solutions for smarter energy systems at the local level (energy efficiency for buildings, smart cities, energy islands)

The panel will evaluate the implementation of the key actions under the Integrated SET-Plan with focus on energy efficiency in buildings, including creation of technologies and services for smart homes that provide smart solutions to energy consumers increasing the resilience, security and smartness of the energy systems, development of new materials and technologies and the market uptake of energy efficiency solutions for buildings. Addressing the local systems from a cleaner energy perspective, require a view on specific issues such as the energy and geographical islands, so the panel will address the special conditions and requirements that such geographical sites have.

Panel IX. (parallel) Market integration I. Central European natural gas market

The panel will address major challenges the EU and in particular the Member States in Central and South Eastern Europe are confronted with in the field of security of natural gas supplies, including development of the strategic gas transmission infrastructure. Special attention will be paid to the implementation of the “Road Map towards the regional gas market among Visegrad 4 countries” adopted by Prime Ministers of the Visegrad Group in Warsaw on 16 June 2013 and the implementation of “North-South Gas corridor” which could enable more gas flows among the countries in  the region.
